PDF Viewing Diagnostic
A free test page for browser PDF support on front-desk workstations. Verifies your browser can render PDFs inline, that a sample renders without downloading, and that form fields and print work. Run it on the workstation where users are reporting trouble opening PDFs.
Read the Pdf Test guide for help reading the verdict or fixing each failure mode.
Configuration
Takes about 30 seconds. You will be asked to confirm what you see on screen because no JavaScript signal alone can tell whether the PDF actually rendered. No data leaves your machine.
Diagnostic complete
PDF viewing capability is available in this browser
Reading navigator.pdfViewerEnabled and the legacy plugin list.
A test PDF renders inline
Loads sample.pdf into an iframe and asks you to confirm what you see.
Sample PDF
Do you see the PDF above? The document should show the title "desktest.net PDF render test" and a couple of form fields.
PDF interactive features work (form fields and print)
Asks you to type into the form field, then opens a print dialog.
Form field check
Scroll the PDF above to the "Type your name" field. Click into it and type a few characters. Did the characters appear in the field?
Print check
Print the sample PDF above. Click the button below to try printing it directly. If nothing happens (most browsers block that), use the PDF viewer's own print control: hover the PDF to show its toolbar and click the print icon, or click into the PDF and press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac). The print preview should show the PDF (the "desktest.net PDF render test" document), not this page. Did a print dialog for the PDF open?
The browser blocked the scripted print (expected on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox). Print the PDF yourself: hover the PDF to show its toolbar and click the print icon, or click into the PDF and press Ctrl+P. Confirm the preview shows the PDF, then answer below.
